Assemble these supplies:
- 1 cup catsup
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/8teaspoon celery seed (optional)
- Cayenne pepper
- Salt
- Freshly ground pepper 8 to 12 beef back ribs
- (about 4 to 6 pounds total weight)
Steps in preparation:
- For barbecue sauce, combine catsup, sugar, vinegar, dry mustard, cumin, celery seed, if using, and Cayenne pepper to taste in medium-size bowl.
- Line baking sheet with foil.
- Salt and pepper ribs, and arrange in single layer on foil-lined sheet.
- Bake 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
- Remove ribs from oven and raise oven temperature to 450 degrees.
- Stir barbecue sauce to recombine and brush ribs generously with it.
- Return ribs to oven for 10 minutes.
- Brush ribs with sauce a second time and return to oven for another 5 to 10 minutes.
- When ribs look shiny and crispy, remove from oven.
