Assemble these supplies:
- 4 ounce package cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup thick mayonnaise
- 1/2 loaf day-old bread onion, small slices
- Thoroughly cream the cheese and mayonnaise together.
- Cut the bread in round canapes about the size of half dollars.
- Spread each with the cheese-mayonnaise mixture and top with a small slice of onion.
- Bake in a 325° oven until brown, being careful not to burn them. Serve hot.
